How to Turn “Hope for the Best” into “I Have Faith in Myself”
The difference between hope and faith is the difference between uncertainty and certainty.
Here’s how to raise your level of certainty and transform hope into faith in yourself. And it’s based on this interesting quirk of human nature.
The same person reacts to some situations with hope and others with faith. Even though it’s the same person, the reactions are very different.
Here’s how to transplant the feelings of faith into the situations of hope and transform a tentative attitude into a confident one.
Take a deep breath. Elevate your gaze as if looking at an imaginary point just above a distant horizon.
Call to mind a situation that you regularly face and do so with confidence. Draw this situation from any area of life. It might be social, recreational, or professional in nature.
Whatever it is, let your mind choose a situation that you approach with confidence and faith in yourself. See this situation as if through own tactical vest own eyes. Take note of the colors, brightness, and clarity that you see in your mind’s eye. Notice the size and position of the image in your internal field of vision.
Let’s call this your “confident and faith-filled” image.
Now call to mind a situation you regularly face and do so with hope (at best) for a successful outcome. Again, see this situation as if through your own eyes.
Let’s call this your “hopeful” image. Notice how different this image looks as compared to your confident and faith-filled image.
Almost invariably, this image is dimmer, less clear, and the colors are muted. The image is smaller, seems further away, and is located in a different place in your mental field of vision.
Let you imagination adjust this image so that it looks like the “confident and faith-filled” one. You’ll be amazed at how quickly a few adjustments generate a feeling of confidence. And you’ll be amazed at how simple and easy this is.
Let your creative mind alter the colors, clarity, brightness, size, and location of the “hopeful” image so that it more closely matches your “confident and faith-filled” image. Remember to let you imagination do this. You don’t have to do anything!
Keep the subject matter of your “hopeful” image the same. In essence, your imagination is letting you “see it in a new light.”
After you let your imagination make the adjustments, notice how this new image feels. Now call to mind the next time you will face this formerly “hopeful” situation. Notice how you feel more certain, confident, and relaxed.
In your mind’s eye, see yourself facing this situation with confidence and faith in yourself. And let the mind play out this future scene. You may be delightfully surprised at the new and successful outcome.
You have just transformed “I hope for the best” into “I have faith in myself.” And that’s the difference that transforms uncertainty and hope into certainty and faith.
